Corinna-Jana of LOOKS LIKE COJA has fitted out the bathrooms in her home to look consistent – with a keen sense for design and quality. Clean Chic at its best – this describes the felicitous overall concept of Corinna-Jana's home and bathrooms to the point. Bright rooms, with much white and warm beige tones are the perfect theme for her subtle-elegant interior design style.
One planning detail is particularly striking: Children's and parents' bathrooms are adjacent to the respective bedrooms – so-called baths en suite – this is how personal, private areas are created. 'Bathrooms are well-being places,' explains the interior specialist, 'and that's exactly how you should plan them.'
For the parents' bathroom Corinna-Jana purposefully decided on timeless stone tiles in a bright natural tone. The large, structured tiles are not only easy to clean but also produce a stylish contrast to the glossy white surfaces of basin and bath.
Elegant eye-catchers in an otherwise reduced ambience:
two perfectly matched basin and bath mixer taps in chrome. 'I'm very specific about furniture, that's why I'm committed to high, sustainable quality and timeless looks.' Her few but well selected accessories – such as elegant soap dispensers, bathroom stools, vases and candle holders – harmoniously blend with the overall picture and elegantly complement it.
Corinna-Jana, her husband and her 5-year-old son Tom Louis live in a large, light-flooded house with a lot of atmosphere and attention to detail. The graduated business economist and industrial engineer is the founder of and creative brain behind the looks-like-coja blog. Since 2014 she has been presenting a successful mixture of fashion, lifestyle and interior topics there – in short, everything that makes life and, above all, your home more beautiful. Corinna-Jana finds inspiration mainly on her travels, and on Pinterest and Instagram / @lookslikecoja.
Corinna-Jana's colour concept clearly works: The main theme is in white to beige, supplemented by accessories and decor elements from the same palette. The accomplished style expert further plays skilfully with the contrast between shiny and matt surfaces: fine glass and porcelain beside rough terracotta and natural decor such as eucalyptus or pampas grass stems, shells and stones.
Minimalism with personality
'I don't believe in hasty purchases and short-lived fashion trends.'
To the successful blogger Corinna-Jana her home is a mirror of her identity:
It shows the visitor what kind of person lives there. This is why she ponders which new piece and which design classic may move into her home – and which not. The benefit: Her reduced and delicate furnishing concept gives much freedom for decoration. Depending on season and mood she can restyle her bathrooms quickly and easily.
True to her overall concept, Corinna-Jana has also employed the white and beige theme in the bright children's bathroom. By contrast, her concept here is complemented by modern bathroom accessories in matt black: Bath stools, towel rails and shelve provide an ideal stage for sophisticated still life arrangements. 'This not only looks elegant and pure, but is also a real freshness kick!' And the mixer taps? These are aptly matched from two different series, as in the parents' bathroom too. Important: Surfaces and design idiom should harmonise.
A true fit: Art in the bathroom
'Art is everywhere in our home and also a must in the bathroom,' explains Corinna-Jana, referring to her impressive works of art by painter Petra Lorch. The works should be selected to employ colours from the same palette. This allows to mix photographs with calligraphy posters, and abstract art with nature motifs. This is realised to perfection in the children's bathroom: The works harmoniously blend into the purist-elegant ambience.
Professional tip:
The bathroom is damp and warm – not the ideal climate for fine art. This can however not discourage the art lover and furnishing expert Corinna-Jana, as she has found an aesthetically appealing solution:
moisture-resistant aluminium prints or etchings. Great idea!
Subtle shades of light beige in the bathroom offer an ideal backdrop for decorative style elements such as pictures, contrasting accessories or large-leaved plants. Moreover, combine bathroom furniture with white, high-gloss surfaces – they beautifully reflect the light and make the bathroom look still brighter and ampler.
