Nice and relaxing
Straight interior concept: Quality design meets Scandi / Midcentury Modern style
Maria and Heinrich, her husband, had at first considered removing walls to open the kitchen to the living room. On second thoughts, they changed their mind – fortunately, as the small kitchen of their core renovated bungalow from the 1970s has an invaluable advantage: cooking smells stay in the kitchen.
'Now we have a small, fine kitchen that I really like,' says Maria. 'We opted for sand-coloured designer fronts and my husband cast a worktop out of concrete.' A sober, tasteful kitchen mixer tap in Matt Black adds an accent.
The overall look is now excitingly unexcited – just as familiar from Scandi or Midcentury Modern styles: reduced design, light, warm colours and lots of wood.
Maria and her husband moved from a large flat in a pre-WWII tenement into a smaller bungalow. Consequently, they had to discard or give away quite a lot of things to friends and family.
'But all in all, it was liberating,' says the self-employed entrepreneur. Now she lives still downtown but close to the forest, convenient to be outdoors with the dogs a lot.

Charmingly puristic
'Since our bathroom is only 9 square metres small, a puristic, clean look is what matters,' says Maria. Maria and her husband have realised this concept with uniformly light grey trowelled walls and floors, plus mixer taps and bathroom accessories in Matt Black as eye-catchers. A wood countertop and decorative raffia baskets add warm accents.
Functional, with feel-good guarantee
When choosing mixer taps and accessories for her bathroom, Maria's focus were on three things: quality, design and functionality. 'The classic, quality design of Steinberg products inspires us every day,' enthuses Maria. 'We would choose the same mixer taps for kitchen and bathroom time and again.' By the way, she fell deeply in love with her rain shower with handset – because it always gives her a bit of holiday feeling when she takes a shower in the morning.
Speaking of holidays: Maria gets inspired in particular on her travels, in fine hotels and holiday apartments. But also flea market visits and vintage shops figure among her favoured sources of inspiration.
The Conversion
Small bathroom, used to the optimum
The couple planned the bathroom for the bungalow by themselves and had it then done to their ideas by specialised pros. The biggest challenge was the small size of the bathroom, which structurally could not be changed.
In any case, the outcome is more than impressive: 'We are very satisfied with the result,' says Maria. 'Everything worked as we imagined it would.'

Colours & Textures
Not only in bathroom and kitchen – beige tones combined with light wood and matt black and white accents dominate the decor throughout the bungalow. Well done and nicely relaxed.
