Feels like an open air rain shower.
Sara of villawildwuchs
Right under the roof, Sara of villawildwuchs fulfilled her dream to create a light flooded spa oasis. Sometimes it's the layout of the room itself that generates the most creative solutions. So when it came to planning their new bathroom, Sara and Oliver, her husband, had the nice idea to built the shower into the alcove below the sloped skylight. Now she can shower in the sunlight – or under the stars, depending what time of day may be. 'It almost feels like an open air rain shower', Sara says excitedly. Another benefit: The brick-built shower bench invites to linger in the shower rain. 'I used to be quite the bath type – but now I rather relax in the shower.'

SARA, HER HUSBAND OLIVER and their daughter Wilma live together in an over 100 year old art noveau villa in the outskirts of Berlin. The young couple have renovated their dream home in the countryside with much love and perseverance almost completely by themselves. On their blog villawildwuchs Sara passionately writes about renovation, interior decor and cool DIY ideas. She draws inspiration for her apt style mix of 'antique-modern' and 'rebellious-traditional' (as Sara herself puts it) from nature and flea markets.

SARA OF VILLAWILDWUCHS:
'We wanted not only a utilitarian bathroom but also a place to linger and relax',
says Sara. The bathroom had to be spacious and well-lit. So the obvious choice was to make two small rooms into one light flooded with much white marble. Two skylights and three floor to ceiling windows make the place bright and put the freestanding bathtub in a good light. 'Bathing has become one of our daughter Wilma's favourite rituals – and the best thing for me is to see her so cheerful at it.'
Sara succeeded in setting apt accents in her puristic white bathroom decor with elegant, shiny mixer taps, black accessories and exotic plants. So the large-leafed crane lily next to the bathtub and cacti in pots of various colours make for interesting and vivid contrasts. Smart solutions such as recessed racks and large wash basin cabinets for care and beauty utensils make the bathroom look neat and tidy. And also Sara's knack for creative DIY ideas doesn't come up short: The three wall mounted wire baskets are not only stylish decor but also inventive towel racks. 26 square metres – much space for individual ideas!

THE PLANNING OF THE BATHROOM – like all other house related things too – was in the hands of Sara and her husband entirely, except for the costly wall opening and the reconstruction of the bathroom, which was left to the pros. Would they make anything another way if they could plan again? The answer comes quick: 'No more glossy tiles for the bathroom floor – totally impractical! But at the other hand, they look extremely good', Sara laughingly says.
